Internet Landfill: Hip-Hop Is Funny!

Rap, when performed by people that you wouldn't usually associate with the genre, can be HILARIOUS. Unfortunately, this has become a comedic fallback for lazy people with something they need to make viral. Here are two examples from the last week:

Steven Slater - I'm Steven Slater Bitches!

I guess if someone does something that makes them go viral, and there's no accompanying video to autotune, and you're not very smart or funny, and making that person rap would be embarrassing, and you have a confusing iPhone app to promote - then you have no choice but to do a rap song. Even if doing a rap song makes no sense. Like in the case of Steven Slater, the Jet Blue flight attendant who Erin Brockovich'd* out of his job in August.

I'm not really sure who this is meant to appeal to. He obviously knows it's a joke, and the person who produced it knows it's a joke, but they failed to insert any actual humour. I suppose I chuckled when he used the term "dot-com biz", but I'm pretty sure that part wasn't meant to be funny.

Angelina SomethingItalian - I'm Hot

Again, no-one is disputing that this thing is awful on purpose. If you're able to get past the fact that it's a rap song by an ex-Jersey Shore cast member (and really, you shouldn't be able to get past that) then the fact that her opening line is: "I'm hot, so hot, I'm like an ice cream cone with a cherry on top" should do it. I suppose there's always a chance that Angelina didn't realise she was being mocked with this, and if that's true, then it's kinda funny. But, more likely, this is just an extremely depressing example of how much someone is willing to humiliate themselves to remain famous for another week. Eugh.

*I've never seen Erin Brockovich, but it seems like the kind of movie that would have an empowering job quitting scene.
