A 19-year-old man died at Rockness festival in Scotland this weekend. Police are trying to figure out if "Benzo Fury" had something to do with it, after two of the victim's friends were hospitalised after taking the legal high. It's thought that the death is drugs-related, but police won't know for sure till the results of a toxicology report comes back in two to three weeks time. In the meantime, the current media panic surrounding legal highs will no doubt reach new levels of shrillness.Europe
IT'S OFFICIAL: SPAIN IS THE NEW GREECE!
All their money's run out so they've been bailed out by the Eurozone
(via)
Spain has become the fourth nation to have their economy saved by the other countries in the Eurozone. The Spanish government have been loaned €100bn (£81bn) to stop their banking system collapsing. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy rather desperately tried to claim that the fact his country had to be leant the money was a victory for the euro. However, the conditions of the loan are likely to be less tough than those imposed upon Greece, Portugal and Ireland in similar circumstances, and that's not going to make things any easier as those three countries may now seek to renegotiate the terms of their own deals. As little as two weeks ago, Rajoy insisted that Spain wouldn't need to resort to such a rescue package, but I guess that was just baloney aimed at making sure a crisis of confidence didn't engulf the Spanish economy. THAT GREEK FASCIST WHO SLAPPED A WOMAN ON TV DOESN'T SOUND VERY SORRY ABOUT IT
Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris is still in hiding and threatening to sue the women he assaulted(via)
Ilias Kasidiaris, the spokesman for Greek neo-fascist party Golden Dawn, is still managing to evade the clutches of police. He is wanted on charges of grievous bodily harm after throwing a bottle of water and slapping two female politicians on TV last week. Kasidiaris is due to appear in court today (Monday, June 11th) because of an unrelated attack on a postgraduate student five years ago. And the 31-year-old has even taken the step of threatening to sue the two female politicians – Liana Kanelli, of the KKE communist party, and Rena Dourou, of the Syriza party – for "provoking" him. "I am sorry that without intending to, I got mixed up in a case that has confused public opinion and was aimed at hitting Golden Dawn," he said. "I will go to the prosecutor in person to sue those behind the illegal actions that have taken place in the last two days." Golden Dawn have been in the news a lot lately because the party were recently voted into Greek parliament. There are further elections next Sunday (June 17) as the country tries to figure out who will run it. Weather
WALES GOT FLOODED
A shit tonne of rain fell and water got where it wasn't supposed to be

People had to be airlifted from their homes and evacuated from holiday caravan sites after heavy rain and a breached reservoir combined to ruin parts of Wales with water. No one died but a bunch of locals and people taking recession holidays had yet more misery poured onto their heads and the owners of the caravan parks can't be too happy, either. There are more flood warnings in place as weathermen predict the rain will keep falling all this week, maybe even for the whole month. Olympics

EURO 2012 STARTED
It's been pretty good so far(via)
Euro 2012 started on Friday. On the opening day, Poland drew 1-1 with Greece and Russia hammered the Czech Republic 4-1. On Saturday, Denmark surprised the Dutch with a 1-0 win, and Germany narrowly defeated Portugal by the same scoreline. On Sunday, Croatia completely outclassed Ireland in a 3-1 victory, and Italy and Spain played out a fascinating 1-1 draw. Today, England will get embarrassed by France and Ukraine, Sweden or both will start earning the points they need to ensure that Roy Hodgson's side don't make it past the first round. Should be fun.So far, Robert Lewandowski, Alan Dzagoev, Mats Hummels, Ivan Perisic, Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo and Antonio Di Natale have been particularly impressive, while Arjen Robben seems determined to continue his ploy of cutting in from the right wing and blazing wildly into the spectators behind the goal. There have also been some racism, a fair amount of fighting and endless references to the games Chelsea won in the Champions League by employing the (apparently revolutionary) tactic of defending.
