So PunterNet is like MySpace for creeps who are into whores and massage parlour blowjobs to share stories. It claims to be a benevolent community that "promotes better understanding between customers and ladies in the hope that everyone may benefit." We asked prostitute help centre The Poppy Project what they thought about it…PunterNet is for punters (customers of prostitution) to swap information about the women they buy, and occasionally, the agencies that pimp the women. Reports detail the location, contact details and price. Users also describe the encounter explicitly, and comment on the woman herself.A number of reports on the PunterNet website made it clear that the women were trafficked and/or coerced into prostitution, but the punters could not have cared less. For example: "She wasn’t really into it. A bit nervy, but willing"; "another Oriental, speaks little English"; and "Out of her face with drink and could barely speak a word of English."Below are some choice posts from the charmers:"Prostitute murders get a lot of media attention in Scotland, so if you must kill a whore go somewhere else to do it."
- Glasgow"I felt the condom fall off but I just went for it big time."
- London"Keen to get things over quickly. When I mentioned seeing reports she sighed and said ‚Äòso you’re here for the oral then’. This is strictly business and make no mistake."
- LeedsA number of men allude to pressurising the women into unsafe sex. "Bareback (sex without a condom, usually anal) is available", writes one customer. "I knew she was a dirty slag, but figured the worst that could happen to me if I fucked her without a jonny [sic] was I would get someone’s sloppy seconds," writes another. The men seem to hate the women. The misogyny is somewhat obvious. "A dirty girl" writes one. "A drink-sodden old boot, and filthy with it", writes another. Somehow, men manage to separate women in prostitution from "other" women ‚Äì as if they are less human or less deserving. There is no comprehension or even thought of how these women ended up in such a vile trade which is perpetuated by the punters who continue to exploit them, as long as the women serve their purpose. But ask any one of them and you can be sure the majority would not be happy for their sister, mother, or partner to prostitute themselves. Some of the customers wish to inflict pain on the women as part of their own sexual pleasure. For example: "Will try anything, but doesn’t like pain"; "I put the collar round her neck and dragged her round on all fours. She started to cry, but told me later it was because she was so turned on by it."There were no messages from customers encouraging others to report suspected trafficking cases, or concern for the women.Paying for sex is abusive. It causes harm to the women, whether they appear to be ‚Äòconsenting’ or not. They don’t want some grotesque, stinking man pawing them. Handing over ¬£20 does not make it OK. The men on PunterNet are fairly representative of sex buyers. Having an online community simply serves to allow these rapists to justify their actions. The normalisation of prostitution, in other words marketing women in the same manner as cars or fast food dinners will encourage more men to become punters. This will result in more women suffering abuse. Women are not hamburgers or slot machinesJULIE
