LONDON - MR HUDSON

There's a new group called Mr Hudson & The Library and they just played at the Old Blue Last (aka the new 100 Club / CBGB's / Max's Kansas City). All the major record companies are going KERRAZY about them.

We'd heard about Birmingham native Ben Hudson being a student at Oxford University (2:1 in English Literature) who spent more time listening to GZA's Liquid Swords than reading Alfred Lord Tennyson, and how every major label in the UK was offering him silly amounts of money to sign with them (Mercury Records won), so we wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Listen: Ask the DJ

When Ben turned up dressed in a Barbour Jacket and an Indiana Jones hat with band members that looked like crazy child scientists it looked like were going to get School Of Rock meets Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Luckily, the band could play a lot better than they looked and sounded like Tom Waits meets DJ Premier. WTF? Actually it worked.

They have a single coming out on Deal Real Records and then they're working on a mixtape, which will feature a bunch of grime guys. You know how it works. You build these guys up and then they become really famous and they stop talking to us because they're too busy ordering private jets.
