Samsung Washing Machines Are Reportedly Exploding Now, Too

Samsung has been having a rough month, what with the announcement of the iPhone 7 and that whole "Galaxy Note 7 smart phones exploding left and right" thing. To make matters worse, people are now saying their Samsung washing machines are randomly blowing up as well, CNN reports.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a warning this week about "safety issues" surrounding Samsung washing machines made between March 2011 and April 2016. The warning doesn't specify a particular model, but suggests that problems have occurred with several machines.

In a statement published on Samsung's website, the company advised customers with affected machines to wash "bedding, bulky, or water-resistant materials" at a lower spin speed to lessen "the risk of impact injuries or property damage due to the washing machine becoming dislodged."

Reports from Texas, New Jersey, Indiana, and Georgia all allege that people heard huge noises in their laundry rooms and subsequently found twisted hunks of metal where their washing machines once were—not to mention wet, unfinished loads of laundry. One New Jersey lawsuit in particular claims that Samsung "has moved aggressively to collect and destroy all evidence of the defective machines" following the explosions.

"It is important to note that Samsung customers have completed hundreds of millions of loads without incident since 2011," the company writes in its statement, because, apparently that's just the price some customers have to pay for a clean pair of socks.
