How to Improve Your Mood in Five Replacements Clips

The other night I was dealt a re-visiting of the Replacements as my wild card, and listened to every song from each of their albums, probably for the first time in years. I was re-newed with life force! I felt so many things! And most importantly, I...

In my formative music listening years, before I chose darkness, my two favorite bands were the Lemonheads and the Replacements. Both of these bands were adored by me in that, must own everything, will get goosebumps upon listening to sort of way, but only one of them followed me into adulthood. Guess which one. Guessssssssss. That's right, the Replacements.

I first learned of the Replacements after reading in a fan zine that they were Winona Ryder's favorite band. Being that the mere thought of Winona Ryder literally led me into what would become a rich life of lesbianism, naturally I welcomed the band into my #1 heart slot as well. And  they have pretty much stayed there. But wait, before I go any further, here's a picture of Winona Ryder wearing a Replacements shirt:

Lately my new favorite thing to do, after a long day of making the internet, is to come home and go on a Spotify emotional roller coaster while drinking many beers and smoking cigarettes over the kitchen sink. Do not try to tell me that this isn't a normal and healthy thing to do, because I will disagree and fight your face. Usually these emotional sound coasters start with Drake, and then go to Parenthetical Girls (it's a leap, but oddly, it works,) and then branch off into wild card territory. The other night I was dealt a re-visiting of the Replacements as my wild card, and listened to every song from each of their albums, probably for the first time in years. I was re-newed with life force! I felt so many things! And most importantly, I stopped hating myself, life, and everything within it, for nearly a whole day following my ear journey! I feel that I can help you do the same. So here, the next time you feel like everyone sucks (even though it's true, they do) walk with me in this place of love, and Replacements clips:

1) "Alex Chilton"

From the very first note, everything about this song is perfect and joy-inducing. It's got everything. Even hand claps. You'll be feeling like a hundred bucks once you've filtered this through your pores, I tell you what.

2) "Careless"

Uh oh, live footage! I'd give my left boob to be able to go to one of their shows. Look at Paul Westerberg with his short hair and his square clothes. This band wasn't about fucking tweets and DJ nights, they were about making perfect sounding music. Will you ever even know what that means, you fetus?

3) "Within Your Reach"

This is a song that I've played over and over and over so many times, I could probably sing every word even while black out drunk. I've put this on more romance mixes than would be decent to count. If you can listen to this whole song, and not conjure up crush-like feelings that feel so real, you wonder if you're secrelty in love with someone, and somehow forgot, then you're a monstrous asshole.

4) "Merry Go Round"

Do they not look THRILLED to be making a music video for you? No, they do not, because they're not actors, they're musicians. Isn't that fun? Do you see how different life can be?

5) "Sadly Beautiful"

There was a live version of this that I almost chose instead, but I'd much rather you be able to very clearly hear this song. Anytime you love someone, or anytime you miss someone who you've loved, listen to this and then just cry and cry and cry and cry and cry. Listen to it 50 times if you have to, and then at the end you'll feel like you just swam a million laps in a luke warm pool, and will maybe take a nice nap and be done with it.

See??? Don't you just feel great now??
