In the Mix with Karl Blau - Dandelion Morning Spell

Karl walks us through the forks in the road.

In this installment of In The Mix, Karl takes us on a heady journey through keeping a watch on our decision making process, and how to open the doors of possibility. Deep stuff, but you can take it.

If I would cast a spell on the people of my country today I would perch on a high cliff at dawn facing East and a touch towards the South. Holding a heavy 4-cornered stone above my head with my right hand -- and with my left a dandelion tuft -- I’d recite a vigorous cry through the seeds until they all dispersed out into the ether.

We hear talk everyday of how our society teters in a constant state of emotional, spiritual and psychological flux - economic struggle, our unconscious constant tapping of finite resources, the unpredictability of climate change; people can and do argue all day about the reality of these mounting adverse effects. One thing remains certain, and the proof is you are reading this: you were given life which is an impermanent, fleeting energy. Moreover, many of us people will experience a noticeable deterioration as we age. And this is wherefore I implore you to consider today to start your training for the inevitable harder days likely ahead. I propose that if you invest your current strengths in very small ways toward the pursuit of toughening your normal threshold, you may begin to see the benefits straight away.

Each moment of the day presents a fork in the road -- a question of a route to take. Fork, or chopsticks? …  Double or triple latte?   Or Americano? Or tea? Should I drink water now? Do I look at this person on the street who is looking at me in the eye and do I smile? Or do I ignore? Because each decision causes a reaction, it is important for you to have a refined method of how you behave and deal with your life path’s gazillion options each day. A myriad of characteristics like how you hold yourself when you walk, sit and stand, how much sleep you give yourself plays into your person. Hence a complicated combination makes up who it is that answers to your name. A big part of the bonds we feel today is the resistance by our bodies of the foods we eat - possibly by the way that the food finds its way to us, and the lack of forethought to question how this process functions.

Of course the way you challenge yourself is highly subjective. It’s certainly not about beating yourself up; it may begin by asking yourself at a random moment during your normal course “What if I…?”  “What if I walk around the block before I go into that restaurant?”  “What if I picked up a pen and drew a picture instead of opening my computer?”  You don’t have to do the thing this time. It could start with asking yourself questions about what you are up to. Firstly you may want only to raise an awareness of the framework present in what decisions you are making from one moment to the next.

The discomfort you will feel by applying yourself is as the friction of a rusty hinge. Once opened -- no matter how small -- the door offers a new dimension of mental capacity. One super easy thing to try is when you think of it, acknowledge your place by smiling. Even if you don’t feel like smiling, you can feel your brainwaves changing instantly by just doing it. Or who knows?  Spice it up a little by putting a song in your throat in the middle of a crowd.

Picture me up on the cliff if you need a visual - the Butterfly Effect already in progress. You are reaching inward and unfurling the red carpet for your waltz, and not the flapping tongue as much as the King Solomon variety floating gently out into your new reality, awaiting your command.  More powerful magic suggests the option of growth to a seed in hopes to invoke each tendril to unfurl in its own way.
