India City Plan to be 'Beggar-Free' and Ivanka Trump Might be the Reason Why
Officials in Hyderabad is planning to give out 500 rupees ($7.64 USD) to each citizen who reports a beggar in an initiative to get all of the city's beggars off the streets by December 15. The beggars who have been rounded up by police are being sent to a rehabilitation center near the city's central prison. The police has also issued a two-month ban on begging. Critics say this is related to Ivanka Trump's visit scheduled on 28-29 November, but officials are denying this. A similar thing happened when beggars seemed to disappear when former US President Bill Clinton visited the city in March 2000. —BBC
