George Clinton's Tiny Desk Concert Will Funk Up Your Life with Pure Joy

The P-Funk legend and his All-Stars tore the roof off NPR's concert series with nothing but classics.

The influence of George Clinton's P-Funk galaxy of Parliament and Funkadelic is so vast that it needs no more ink to be spilled about it, so maybe the best case for their continued relevance is to see them outperform many of their followers. Even pared down, George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars might be one of the larger ensembles to play NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series (question: how can the desk be "tiny" if it can support nine people? something doesn't add up), and it wouldn't be P-Funk if there weren't at least five people (including Clinton's grandchildren) shouting along to every word.

The songs here are all classics, of course, and Clinton himself deserves a lot of credit for treating the relatively confined space of the NPR offices like a block party, urging the (likely many) music dweebs in the audience to get loose, dance, and sing along. Seriously, the man is 76 years-old but has more life than most millennials. It's objectively one of the most fun performances to grace the medium-sized desk, and you can watch it above.
