Nicolás Almagro Bursts into Tears After Injury Withdrawal at French Open

Juan Martin del Potro tried to comfort the Spaniard, who had been dealing with a knee injury and simply couldn't continue their match.

Nico Almagro had to withdraw from his second-round match against Juan Martin del Potro at the French Open today, and it's absolutely brutal to watch.

Almagro was returning to tennis after a May injury that forced him to withdraw against Rafael Nadal. He made it through his four-set match in the first round, and had just battled back to even this match with del Potro at 1-1 before suffering the injury. The final moment came as del Potro was serving, and Almagro didn't even move. He was just hunched over, already processing that his tournament was done, and then just completely lost it and collapsed onto the clay.

Almagro couldn't have had a more sympathetic opponent. Having dealt with a litany of injuries himself, del Potro is playing in his first French Open since 2012. You can even hear the commenters talk about how they were more concerned with del Potro's injury history than Almagro.

With the crowd chanting "Nico, Nico," del Potro helped Almagro to his feet and walked him over to the net, where they hugged it out. Almagro then let out some frustration, and a few more tears, before walking off the court with a trainer.

With the win, del Potro will advance to play Andy Murray in the third round.
