When you turn 18 you suddenly meet a lot of new people who don’t know your parents. It’s a time of learning a lot of new things about the world. One thing you learn is that everyone from New Zealand loves Die! Die! Die!—seriously they should just put them on their coins already. Another thing you learn is that on average, people from New Zealand have pretty good taste in music.
“Crystal” is the first track off the Auckland band’s upcoming album SWIM. The name is from the Internet acronym for “someone who isn’t me”, suggesting songwriter Andrew Wilson is moving beyond himself, stepping out of his comfort zone, and exploring a new stage in the bands music. Or they just love Facebook Chat—both make sense to us.
