When Little Simz does something, she does it properly, so an album release is not just an album release. When Simz released her debut A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons, she also dropped a short film of the same title. In her wisdom and benevolence, she has done the same again for her second full-length Stillness in Wonderland, which she released on Friday.
Stillness in Wonderland: The Film is a trippy 15 minute fever dream of a short which dips between the real and the surreal, kind of like Alice in Wonderland except it’s much cooler and there isn’t a creepy smiling cat that bugs you out a bit and makes you feel weird for some time after. Instead, it features the London rapper performing two of the album’s tracks – “Doorways + Trust Issues” and “Low Tides”. As the latest in a long line of extended music visuals this year, it’s up there with the best in terms of originality, execution and pure style.
