Vivek Murthy, who served as surgeon general under President Barack Obama, speaks to VICE News about America’s opioid epidemic and the path forward. Murthy’s landmark 2016 report Facing Addiction in America laid bare the extent of the opioid crisis and detailed how inadequate access to effective drug treatment has compounded the situation.
A Harvard-trained physician and the first U.S. surgeon general of Indian descent, Murthy, 40, was asked by the Trump administration to resign in April. He speaks live at 11 a.m. ET on Sept. 5 with VICE News U.S. Editor Keegan Hamilton.
