An Ontario college is offering Canada's first ever post-graduate accreditation for growing weed.Niagara-on-the-Lake's Niagara College will launch its certificate in commercial cannabis production next year, which will coincide with the federal government's plan to legalize weed by next summer.According to a media release, the year-long program will help students who want to work for or become federally-licensed producers. Licensed producers, of which there are 58 in the country right now, are the only corporations who can legally grow and sell medical weed in Canada. They will also supply the recreational market once it becomes legal.Grads will be "Greenhouse and Controlled Environment Technicians," trained to navigate the federal government's strict laws around growing cannabis, said Al Unwin, associate dean of Niagara College's School of Environmental and Horticultural Studies, in the release."Driven by legislative changes in Canada and abroad, there is a growing labour market need, and education will be a key component of the success of this emerging industry," Unwin said.BC's Kwantlen Polytechnic University started a course for growing and selling weed in fall 2015.Follow Manisha on Twitter.
