Alta's New Video Brings the Party to the Desert

Being sweaty and dehydrated never looked so good.

Hailing from Hobart, Alta are a change of pace for the local scene. With Julius Dowson's hip-hop inspired beats and Hannah Lesser's smoky voice, the pair create melodically malfunctioning pop. This year they'll be playing at Soundwave festival in Croatia alongside Madlib, Jonwayne, and Shigeto; and supporting Tokimonsta and Ta-ku on tour in Vienna. With their eyes on the European summer, the hyper-coloured vibes of their video "Wash it Down" make a lot of sense.

Filmed 550 km out of Melbourne in Mildura, directed by frequent collaborator Bianca Milani, the sand dunes and blue skies provide a suitable setting for the playful, psychedelic clip.

"We came up with the concept on Bianca's birthday," says Hannah. "It was going to be the first video she'd directed, and the idea all started with this one scene, the paddling pool. I had the idea that it would be in the middle of no-where, but look really fake—it was all about the colours, bright blues and sunlight."

Although filming was not without its difficulties: "I mean we were in the desert —there's no water—we had to buy these five huge bins, and had to fill them up because in Mildura, there's only tank water. We didn't want to steal some poor guys' water so he couldn't shower for a week. We had to carry buckets of water across the desert."
