The BBC Edited Down Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." Again.

This is the second time in as many months that they've removed pro-LGBTQ lyrics from the song.

Another month, another BBC talent show that features people performing "Born this Way" by Lady Gaga, but with the LGBTQ-positive lyrics – which some might say are the very heart and soul of the track – conspicuously absent.

Back in February this happened on Let It Shine, which featured famous tax scheme story apologist Gary Barlow trying to find people to be in a musical ostensibly about himself, and here, now, in March, it's gone down in Let's Sing and Dance for Comic Relief, a programme where minor-to-mid level celebrities sacrifice their dignity in the name of charity. It is the programme that once gave us this:

Halcyon days :-)

Anyway, the offending performance on his year's edition of the show was given by presenters from the The One Show (essentially Blue Peter for adults but also home of this revolutionary moment). Though some of the song's spoken word part was included, it was awkwardly cut just before anybody could say anything about lesbians (because, heaven forbid):

Viewers, once again, were upset at the LGBTQ erasure, though when we reached out to the BBC for comment, a spokesperson told us "'Born This Way' by Lady Gaga performed by The One Show reporters on Let's Sing and Dance for Comic Relief was shortened purely for length. It is standard procedure to edit down music tracks to fit into the running time of the show."

Interestingly, this is what they told us when we queried the lyric removal on Let it Shine. Strange how on both occasions it was the most important part of the song that was cut, huh? Anyone who's watched music talent shows know that producers and composers can switch between sections seamlessly, to skip through to the end of the track sooner. But hey, time constraints must be the only reasoning here.
