Give In Comes Out the Gate Swingin' with a Cover of Claude's "CaliFuture"

and an accompanying video ode to his home state.

Eric Sharp, the mustachioed maestro behind Rock It Science Labs, is a ubiquitous presence in the Los Angeles underground. These days he's been seen cavorting with Give In, the new moniker of West Coast polymath George Cochrane (also known as Origami, with releases on Fabric, So Sound, Drop Music). Their work together roves the boundaries of house: often minimal, always with an edge, and laid down with a musician's touch.

Give In's Slow Moves EP just dropped, but we just caught wind of this fresh cover of Claude VonStroke's "Califuture". Yeah, you read that right. It's not a remix, it's a full-blown cover, vocals and all, an indication of Cochrane's musical breadth. The rendition is a spindly 'lil house number and a fitting ode to the left coast. "At first it felt like a funny dig on the scene here in CA," Cochrane tells THUMP. "But then I realized it's basically about my life. I thought shifting it from fun and acidic to icy and unsettling might change the context in a cool way. You don't hear many house covers of house tracks, either, so I just went for it."

In a further ode to his home state, Give In's vid for "Time Away" features passing scenes of Californian scenery as a darkwave, techy track builds in the background. It presents a cognitive dissonance that pulls you in deep into some orgiastic sense of confusion. Much like Los Angeles. Oh, we get it now!
