onedotzero is a digital creativity initiative, exploring new forms and hybrids of the moving image that aims to promote innovative work in all areas of new media art. They were at our London event where they screened films from their Wow+Flutter programme, showcasing work at the frontier of digital filmmaking from fresh talent and celebrated auteurs alike. This year is the 14th edition of their onedotzero_adventures in motion festival which will be taking place November 10th through 14th at the BFI (British Film Institute) Southbank in London. It’s an event that always has an eclectic selection of films and activities. This year, it will feature films inspired by music along with The Johnny Cash Project, a unique crowd-sourced music video project honoring the legacy of Johnny Cash where fans can submit drawings based on archival frames of Cash. There will also be something called robotica, an exploration of the ethics and social effects of robots or androids; code warriors, investigating the trend of using computer code as raw material to create moving image work, and ladymation, a brand new programme showcasing eclectic gems from female directors currently leading the way in animation. Along with panel discussions, forums, workshops, short films, and computer games. Make a date in your diaries if you’re in town. Above is an animation from Wow+Flutter 2009 called “RAAA” by Bruno Dicolla, about “the myth of the eternal return of life after death.”
