SuperUber Creates Stunning Sensory Experiences

SuperUber combines artistic creativity with today’s cutting-edge technology to create eye-catching interactive light installations.

The story behind SuperUber is one of literal online conception. Brazilian artist Liana Brazil took her blog Super Pink and merged it with South African engineer Russ Rive’s blog Uber Devices to make their website and company SuperUber. What they’ve conceived is a collaborative creative technology lab that produces interactive projects combining art, technology, and design.

As a pioneer in developing multimedia scenery projects in Brazil, SuperUber have amassed a strong portfolio of various works and are often commissioned to display their projects in prominent museums—like Beco das Palavras, which was commissioned for the Museu da Língua Portuguesa in São Paulo. Their work is also shown at major festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and many more events around Brazil and abroad. They have offices in both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but recently just opened their third office in New York City.

SuperUber has created amazing work over the last nine years, and some of our favorites are outlined below:

Sopro Interativo (Interactive Breath)

The installation allows the visitor to critically interact with art. The visitor becomes an essential part of the installation by using his or her breath to move light shapes across the table, bringing life to motionless objects.

Teto interativo (Interactive Ceiling)

SuperUber developed the software for 180 round screens that display animations and graphics at parties and festivals. The screens are synchronized with live music and project various visual illusions onto their associated backdrops.

Projeção Volumétrica (Volumetric Projection)

This series of mapped projections were displayed at the exhibition Pixel Park: SuperUber Art and Technology in São Paulo, in August 2009. Each projection allows visitors to play with light, perspective, and movement with their hands or entire bodies. One installation allows you to stand, jump, or dance in front of it while a projection of your silhouette mimes your every move. Photos of Super Pong are displayed above.

Projeção na igreja Santa Rita (Projection on Santa Rita church)

This installation showcases the Santa Rita Church in Rio De Janeiro. The church's structure and façade is used as a background to project light shapes that distort and illuminate the church's shape. This presents both the architecture of this beautiful, old church and SuperUbers' light projection technology.
