Vimeo Festival Kicks Off In NYC [Photo Gallery]

A sneak peek at the action and the artwork.

This morning comedian/musician/scholar Reggie Watts gave a “State of the Internet” address inaugurating the first ever Vimeo Festival and Awards. While the talk was in many ways an exercise in the absurdist comedy Watts has become known for, accented with a smattering of his signature improvisational musical numbers, amid the humor there was a tinge of earnest excitement for the creative possibilities afforded by the new digital age we live in. “This is the dawn of a new generation,” said Watts, before promptly following it up with some tongue-in-cheek faux-academic bit about the “proletariat egalitarian program” created by the internet and DSLRs.

After the address, we made our way over to the Vimeo World gallery to check out the selection of video-based art works on display. Check out the photo gallery above!
