The Internet Will Never Not Love UFO Videos

Have fun with this one.

So this is pretty big on the internet right now, apparently, though it took a post of debunking at Discovery to enlighten me to that fact. It's a dude on an airliner at night shooting some or another blotch of lights in the indeterminite distance and, if presented without context, I'd assume it was lights on the ground muffled by clouds. One of the fine "citizen journalists" at the Examiner.com blog network is very top serious about the sighting and writes:

The UFO itself is of a type possibly never filmed before. For most of the video the lustrous, rounded object flies alongside the jet, maintaining relative distance and speed. This in itself is unusual as aircraft are usually separated by a mile or more for safety reasons. The object looks metallic and resembles a closed fist encased in a glove.

Which, to me, is the block of text that makes this at all interesting. Because it doesn't actually look like any of those things, beginning with an "object." It's full of shit. And the internet is very full of shit, but it's always a little bit interesting when it comes from one of these Examiner blogs. Based on the few links that come across my laptop, the Examiner network is basically a bunch of wingnuts given a thin veneer of legitimacy by a name once associated with serious newspapers. It's a pretty weird business model.

At the same time, UFO videos are fun for the same reason the apocalypse is fun: it's a rupture in the Matrix, a suggestion of some other reality or potential reality in which life isn't boring and/or mostly out of our control. In other words, things don't have to be like this because look.
