Alan Fitzpatrick's Remix of "Hunger" by Auden is a Double Headed Dragon of a Record

The mysterious producer's been given a 20st pummelling of a remix.

Alan Fitzpatrick is a DJ and producer who you'll definitely have heard of and you'll definitely know. Auden, on the other hand, is shrouded by mystery. No one — not even his mum, not even the bin men who do the rounds on his street on a Wednesday — knows who he actually is. That's how shrouded in mystery he is.

The good thing about that though, is that it reminds us that our mum was right: looks aren't important. Auden could be the bloke who sat next to you on the bus this morning, he could be the woman serving you a coffee at lunchtime, he might even be you.

Whoever he or she is, they've asked Alan Fitzpatrick to give them the remix treatment. Alan's taken on the title track of Auden's upcoming EP Hunger, released on Hotflush on September 11. You can check that remix out below exclusively here on THUMP.

Fitzpatrick's mix of "Hunger" starts off in full on 2008 minimal techno mode — did we call it MNML back then? I can't remember now. Super stiff hats stand to attention, thick globules of bass roll about like molasses down a hill, wild percussion whips around, well, wildly. A big room vocal — solemnly intoning the word "hunger" over and over again like a bratty 13 year old waiting on dad to come back from the chippy with a steaming carrier bag of fishcakes and curry sauce — sounds like everything you've ever heard at 2am in a dark sweaty room surrounded by very sweaty people. In a good way. Then, halfway through, the heavens open, swelling rave synth pads rain down and Auden's take on "Hunger" suddenly becomes a kind of shimmering, ecstatic deep house smasher...and then we're back into the dark. A double headed dragon of a tune.

The Hunger EP is released on Hotflush on September 11th.
