To say that 2013 was a good year for Paul Woolford would be an understatement. There's not many artists that, after years of being entrenched in the depths of house and techno, can suddenly turn around and release an LP under a new alias that ends up being rated as one of the best of the year, but that's exactly what he did as Special Request, and the genre-smashing Soul Music.

Paul Woolford has been a staple of UK electronic music for a good decade now. If you were to put together a solid producers CV, you wouldn't go far wrong copying his own; from releases on Carl Craig's Planet E imprint, Hotflush, Cocoon, 20:20 Vision and Phonica, as well as running his own label, Intimacy. Throw in four years of being a resident at the We Love… parties in Ibiza, and over a decade of touring, Woolford may well reach national treasure status in the near future.
