In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the city's foundation, Wachtmeister projection-mapped illusions transform the dignified German facade of a castle to scarred Frankenstein architecture, complete with terrifying creaks and groans. The installation entitled Reflections represents the bombing and subsequent ressurection of the building after World War II."I work with ideas concerning what I guess could be called non-architecture and plus-architecture," says Jesper Wachtmeister the director best known for the architecture doc Great Expectations. He tells The Creators Project, "The facade is turned into un-chiseled rock, or is ornamented beyond reason." He cites envelope-pushing architects like Lebbeus Woods and the minds at Superstudio as inspiration for the project. If creaking and groaning buildings aren't your thing, fear not—there's a tropical island programmed in the show as well.

Reflections is part of the Schlosslichtspiele, a nightly series of elaborate sound and image projections taking place throughout the year to commemorate Karlsruh's 300th anniversary. The Schlosslichtspiele is showcasing the work of nine artists and artist groups, all of whom explore the "depths and shallows" of the Karlsruhe Palace with their visual art.
