Mister and Mister Potatohead People are Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical

"Broke the Pen" is just a spoonful of their sophisticated sweetness.

The catapult to success is never far from humble beginnings. The Vancouver/Montreal duo Potatohead People are no exception. Their newest release "Broke the Pen" featuring Mosaic, has their humble beginnings coming full circle.

"Mosaic was one of the first people to show me how to make beats," says Nick Wisdom of Potatohead People. "I went to his house and we made a beat on his Roland MV-8800 drum machine and it was so cool to me. It's crazy to be working side by side with that dude just a few years later."

After successful solo releases as Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical, the two collaborated in 2012 with the Kosmichemusik EP, reissued on Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz. The re-release landed their track "Back To My Shit" on a LeBron James documentary produced by Powerade. Quite the catapult, if you ask us.

Their debut album Big Luxury is a melting pot of everything from classic jazz, to downtempo beats, and disco. With backgrounds rooted in two distinct and diverse cities, Potatohead People's musical output is strangely cohesive and honeyed. "Broke the Pen" is just a spoonful of the album's sophisticated sweetness.

"To me, 'Broke the Pen' is an example of us all bringing it back to the basics," says Wisdom. "It's like your favourite beat makers favourite beat."

Recently, Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical were two of 20 Canadian artists chosen to participate in Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp in Montreal on February 26 to March 3. You can grab your tickets to the Bass Camp showcase, which features BADBADNOTGOOD, Kevin Saunderson, and Jacques Greene, here.

Listen to "Broke the Pen" featuring Mosaic above and grab Big Luxury via Bastard Jazz in early March.
