Seattle beat Washington 27-17 tonight and the play that sealed it was a broken one that Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch turned into a 30-yard gain. With the two minute warning looming, the Seahawks were looking at a third-and-four from midfield to extend the drive. The play was blown up from Jump Street, but Wilson scrambled nearly 15 yards in the wrong direction and flipped a pass to Lynch just before the Washington defense got to him. Lynch actually caught the ball two yards behind the line of scrimmage and then took off down the sideline. As Jon Gruden said in the booth, the play had no chance. And yet, there it is.

The Seahawks got a field goal out of it, but extending the drive and eating away the clock were the real benefits. All that time ticking away, coupled with the first down instead of a fourth down and punt, spelled the end for Washington.[ESPN]
