Last week's post was kind of out of line with the level of nepotism I'd told you to expect from this column so here I am back on track again with a new song made by one of my best friends.David Maclean and a few other fellows started Django Django not that long ago. At first their rockabilly/psych/disco/surf thing was difficult to watch live, but now they've got the hang of it. But their songs have been good since they started. Take this track, inspired by "Hale-Bopp," the most widely observed comet of last century, and also, if I remember correctly, by the Heaven's Gate cult most notable for developing the greatest logo of all time. It starts off with a huge slo-mo disco beat before a Jack Nitzsche-style baritone line and crystalline echoed chords take us up high into the stratosphere. Just like where that comet was.Django Django - "Hail Bop"RODAIDH MCDONALD
FYI.
