OK, I know it's a Monday and the sensible thing to do would be to stay in, but Music Knights tonight promises to be more fun than a Saturday night during which you win the lottery and all your enemies die. As well as free Suso cocktails, we've got live performances from Herman Dune and Fanfarlo, a band who David Bowie described as having a "particular knack of being able to create uplifting music that's blessed with a delicious melancholia at the same time." Listen for yourselves and read through the little chat we had with Simon from Fanfarlo below…Fanfarlo - "We Live By The Lake"Vice: How many names did you reject before you chose Fanfarlo?
Simon: Seven, one of them being Bread Wig.Your song about living by a lake is pretty twee.
Yeah. I did actually use to live by a lake in a tiny village in Sweden. I have a bit of an obsession with lakes, especially reservoirs. I might write a book about it.What’s the most awesome show you’ve seen?
Seeing Sufjan a couple of years ago was pretty fucking impressive. They did a human pyramid on stage. In fact, once we recreated that with the band while staying at friend's house in the country when we were on tour, and a put a picture on it on myspace. It came back to bite us though, because people have a habit of getting their press photos off MySpace and that picture makes us look like the biggest dorks ever. What's the weirdest show you've played?
Mallorca was odd. It is essentially a Butlins the size of an island. I wouldn't put on an indie festival there. We didn't really know what to expect, but it was pretty cool in the end. The whole thing was completely swimming in booze and drugs and everyone was REALLY enthusiastic about EVERYTHING. Teenage Fanclub were supposed to headline but got stuck in Bilbao. When they announced this people started shouting for us to come back on, so the festival asked us to play again. People from other bands were dancing on stage and bringing us trays of Jägermeister between songs. How are you going to psych yourself up for The Old Blue show?
We tend to run around and shout obscenities before shows to psych ourselves up, but the Old Blue doesn't have a backstage. So what can we expect to see?
Lots of on-stage jogging. Jogging is the shit.SAM WOLFSON*Fanfarlo play the Old Blue Last tonight.
