Whoa nelly, the latest episode of The Vice Guide to Film is quite the doozy. This week Shane heads to Russia to explore the world of Parallel Cinema–an insane mish mash of booze, violence, surrealism, and insanity birthed from the new found "freedom" of 80's era glasnost and perestroika. In a short time he manages to meet some of the key creative types in the scene (including the bat-shit-insane performance artist Oleg Kulik, who spent a year wandering Europe as a

dog

). He also gets really drunk on vodka, stars in his own Alcho-Cinema film (which is exactly what it sounds like), and romps around the dingy basement of the old Soviet Documentary Film Union headquarters to shoot a scene with one of Russia's most transgressive filmmakers Yevgeni Yufit. Watch it on IFC Canada, Thursday, October 15, 8:30 PM Eastern.
