Every Week Is Nepal Week In London

Tonight sees the opening of Every Week is Nepal Week, the first show that our tall, bearded photographer friend Peter Sutherland has put on with his brother Andrew. If you're in London this evening, head down to Mörel books' temporary pop-up shop/gallery space on 21 Kingly Street between the hours of 6-8PM. Through the medium of five "amateur and experimental videos", you'll get to trek through Nepal and China, visit California's Imperial Valley, float in a volcanic pool in Oregon and eat some crunchy (virtual) tacos. VICE: Hi Peter, what can you tell us about this video?
Peter Sutherland: It's called Nepal Week and was filmed last year during a trek in Nepal's Langtang region, starting in Kathmandu and ending in the high mountains.

What's up with the walking bush guy in the video [1:15]?
It's actually a woman, she's a farmer bringing in crop in Nepal. Women do all of the hard work there.

While the men entertain themselves with snake throwing [1:25?
Nah. That bit was shot at a boy's school in Nepal. They said the snake was poisonous and should be killed. It was sad.

I guess, if you like snakes. I know you're working on an ongoing documentary about Richard Prince, but how long have you worked with moving images as art?
The first big video project I completed was Pedal, in 2002.

Can you tell me a travel memory?
When I was in the Deep South, USA, a lady in a purple sweat suit with no teeth told me I looked as scary as her grandson Randall. She said his wife made him grow his beard so no women would look at him. Somehow, she said it in such a way that it seemed like a compliment, it was amazing. People are really friendly down there.
