This month, the UK has a historic opportunity to improve trans rights. The government is currently consulting the public on whether it should make it easier for trans people to have their gender legally recognised through the Gender Recognition Act.

Join VICE and Stonewall in calling on the government to make vital changes to the GRA and submit your response to the consultation. Follow all of our Recognise Me coverage here.

For the last couple of weeks, VICE has been running Recognise Me, a campaign spotlighting trans issues and encouraging our readers to submit responses to the government's Gender Recognition Act consultation, which closes this Friday, the 19th of October.

A positive public response to the consultation could see major material changes to the Gender Recognition Act as it currently stands, making it much easier for trans people to self-ID their gender.

Since reform of the GRA has come up against a hefty amount of negativity and transphobia (read our debunking of the myths all that negativity is based on here), your voice is needed more than ever. You can come out in favour of a simpler, more straightforward GRA by spending ten minutes – that's all it takes! – filling in the GRA consultation via Stonewall's website here, or – even better – by joining VICE to do so at events in London on Thursday night and all through Friday.

We've got both sides of the river covered: tomorrow evening we'll be at Rye Wax in Peckham from 5PM until 9PM with laptops aplenty, so you can fill in the consultation with a drink in your hand – plus there'll be a performance of Forced Into Femininity by US-based multimedia artist Jill Lloyd Flanagan. Then, on Friday, we'll be holding another laptop session at Emily's Bar in Stoke Newington from 2PM to 9PM (with a load of free beers), followed by an after-party until 2AM, with DJ sets from Mischa Mafia and Alx (PDA).

Come down, have fun and, best of all, support the rights of trans people in the UK.
