This is some pretty cold shit, even for the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams did not have a great first season in Los Angeles. They finished 4-12 and fired longtime head coach Jeff Fisher mid-season. Amazon's new show with NFL Films, a Hard Knocks ripoff called All or Nothing, was there filming the entire shitshow, including the moment Jeff Fisher informed his staff that he'd been fired.
The show starts streaming tomorrow, so they are getting the word out by showing the low point for Fisher and the organization, and apparently John Fassel, son of former coach Jim, who went full Surrender Cobra when he heard the news.Even the copy in the tweet is stone-cold: "'Unfortunately, I won't be there this weekend…I was just fired.' - Jeff Fisher." Please go watch our show, now. SMASH that retweet button. On the other hand, the most dramatic portion of Hard Knocks is when rosters get trimmed down, and the fringe guys get their dreams dashed. It's a harsh reminder of just what an all-consuming beast the NFL is, chewing up and spitting out athletes each year. It doesn't usually work that way for coaches or front offices—at least they are not nearly as fungible as players. Fisher, for example hadn't had a winning season with the Titans since 2008, and never even had a .500 season with the Rams. No one is saying he deserved another year to try to turn it around, it's just nice to see the NFL figure out they can capitalize on everyone's anguish, not just the player's.
