Illuminated screens and neon signs play with directional lighting that establishes a tone of crisis in each metropolis-induced composition in the series. The artist's use of Chiaroscuro, the Renaissance-era treatment of lighting and shading, specifically creates an intense, dramatic effect that the artist says reflects "the burden of a fresh realization that humanity is born alone and dies alone." The universe that notawave creates through his artworks presents loneliness and an empty existence within the context of the emerging digital world.
