Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards Just Added an EDM Category

Who remembers the golden age of cable channel Nickelodeon, when new episodes of shows such as Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys, CatDog, and Hey Arnold! aired, and Coolio and TLC made their respective theme songs for Kenan & Kel and All That? Those were the good old days, but times have changed… a lot.

As Variety reported, the station’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs), which famously has a running gag of sliming its participants, has just this year added a dance-music category, Favorite DJ/EDM Artist, to its list of awards. Up for the title are the usual suspects, including Martin Garrix, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and Zedd. Elsewhere, The Chainsmokers are nominated in two categories, Favorite Music Group and Favorite New Artist (and against their “Don’t Let Me Down” collaborator Daya, at that).

The EDM grouping is one of nine new categories this year, including Favorite Frenemies, #Squad, and Most Wanted Pet.

Contrary to what The Chainsmokers and Halsey said in “Closer,” we are always getting older.

The Kids’ Choice Awards airs March 11 on Nickelodeon. View the dance-music nominees below.
