Skating in Monterrey

I saw a lot of great art on my recent trip to Monterrey, Mexico, but I was particularly thrilled and impressed by an exhibit I visited called the Callegenera Festival de Expresiones Urbanas at the Centro de Las Artes in the Parque Fundidora. Punk as a musical, political, and aesthetic force is still very strong in Mexico, similar to the hardcore punk movements in the US and Canada in the 80s and early 90s. In fact, as witnessed by some of my favorite pieces in the show, it sometimes almost takes on a kind of religious significance. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to get the names of most of the artworks or artists, but I thought I’d share them with you anyway, with my own commentary.

A skate park was built inside the exhibition surrounded by art, where hot young Mexican boys skated away the afternoon.

The exhibition featured many wall-sized murals interpreting various aspects of Mexican culture.

which would go well with my most recent tattoo of Zira from the original Planet of the Apes with a sacred heart!

I did catch the name of this painting: "Disertaciones Sobre Una Tanga de Encaje Negro" ("Dissertations on a Black Lace Thong") by Edgar “Bacalao” Argáez

This one was called “Lil’ Rob,” attributed to Goyo StreetArte.

A cute little skateboard fetus! This one was called "El Feto" by Noelius Figueroa. Skating runs deep in Mexico!
