Seven-inches are kind of a hard sell now that you can just say the name of a band into your monitor and have every song they ever wrote waiting for you when you get back from getting a beer out of the fridge. But when someone goes to the trouble of dressing them up all nice in classy sleeves and sending them to you in the mail, it's like a taste of what being really into music used to be like without the attendant fears of getting ripped-off by some dickhole in Italy or accidentally buying an entire album of Chili Pepper funk. The folks at the Social Registry started their little seven-inch club back in May. Everybody's tried to get one of these single-of-the-month things off the ground (hell, even we did a couple years ago), but they always seem to peter out after the first couple. So when we got the first couple we were like, "Pfffft, we'll see how long this lasts…"Well, we are now officially eating our fart noise, because they've already hit number eight and it looks like this whole deal is in it for the long haul. Or at least another month or two. Even if they don't make it into Sub Pop territory, they're already sitting on a fair-sized pile of doozies. The two most recent singles are by Metabolismus, a folksy German music collective that started in Stuttgart in the early 80s (and which we are now pretending we've "always" been into), and Growing, who have yet to release anything that isn't incredible. By this point, they'd need to start poaching from Revelation's current stable of talent to sour us on the idea of divvying out $60 every year for a subscription. You can sign up for the club on their website. Actually the reason we're even telling you about this isn't so much that we think you'll be into it, but because this is the first time we've been genuinely excited by anything musical in the past six months and we are basically going to give up on all new tunes and just listen to CSNY for the rest of our terrible lives if it craps out due to lack of interest.
So please, do it for us. Thank you.
