About a year ago we asked our good friend Olle Hemmendorff to come up with a game for us. He had this idea he had been holding on to for quite some time, which fitted our Horror Issue perfectly, and thus Zombiegrinder was born. This weekend The Swedish Institute of Computer Games picked it as one of the featured games for their annual gaming fair. Olle will be there on Saturday, and if you ask him nicely he says he might even give you the even faster, standalone full-screen version of the game. Read an interview with Olle after the jump…
Play game: ZombiegrinderVice: So you made us this great horror game. But weren't you afraid people were going to be fed up with tiptoeing around in pitch-black rooms trying to avoid heavy breathing psychos or trying to find a lost key in well in the countryside?
Olle: I wanted to do a game that was actually scary. Not creepy-scary like The Shining but panic scary, like being chased by 10 huge, really angry, rabid dogs. I realised that I needed the best and most mental gore grind out there. Luckily three of the greatest gore grind bands in the whole wide world (ie. Regurgitate, Last Days of Humanity and Inhume) liked the idea too.And then it blew up.
Yeah, the internet went nuts for it. Fun online games are rare. And zombies are to the internet what porn mags are to military service (in equal parts a necessity and an addiction). And with quality music like that, the grind and metal crowd felt like it was made especially for them. And I guess it was.Have you heard back from any of the players?
I've received more emails about this game than my inbox could cope with. To all the people that emailed me that I didn't reply to I'd like to say: Thanks for enjoying the game.
No, you can't put it on your website.
No, you can't download it.
No, I can't tell you what song was on this or that level. Just keep your eyes open between the levels and the band name and song title is clearly stated.
No, the chainsaw isn't working.Anything else?
Thanks for playing, kids!
