Just outside this photo, gangs of kids dressed like the guy sitting on the statue were throwing bricks through the windows of the treasury offices. We heard lots of screaming and shouting as mobs of protesters fought with riot police. Seconds after this photo was taken both of these benches became engulfed by flames and lots of people started dancing around it while listening to drum ’n’ bass music. When we tried to escape, the police wouldn’t let us leave. And so we were trapped there from 2 PM to 8 PM, and on top of being in constant danger of having our heads smashed in by flying bricks, nobody was allowed to pee.
