Following a growing list of films that toy with the future possibilities of space exploration, including Gravity, Interstellar, and the upcoming Arrival, Sony dropped the first official trailer Tuesday for Passengers, a new romantic thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.
Although it might not seem like the most romantic meet cute, the two find themselves onboard a spacecraft transporting a bunch of cryogenically frozen people to inhabit a new planet. As they get to know each other on fancy space dates—doted on by a bartending Michael Sheen cyborg—the duo soon finds out that they're the only passengers that have woken up out of hibernation—90 years too soon.
The two space cadets start to fall for each other while simultaneously trying to save their spaceship from hurtling toward disaster and learn that there is a reason why they woke up before everyone else. It all feels very Mr. & Mrs. Smith, lost in space.
Although it looks like just Pratt and Lawrence will be galavanting inside the spaceship for the majority of the film, the trailer hints at brief appearances by Laurence Fishburne and Andy García, too.
You can check out the trailer for the sci-fi wet dream above before Passengers hits theaters on December 21.
