I know advertising pays for things like websites, and maybe I'm just being an arrogant twat, but I don't believe it really works. At least not advertising like this. I genuinely don't think that hiring an ex-criminal to stuff cash into strangers' pockets is going to make people sign up to TalkTalk. Almost nothing on earth could make me go through the amount of paperwork that changing a phone contract would no doubt involve. It'd be like having a holiday here.Just the idea of doing it makes me feel like my bones are full of ice-cold milk and I think if you were going to actually put a contract that had to be read and understood in front of me I'd stub my nose against the wall and try and drown in the bloody puddle. In fact, the only thing scarier than actually having to talk to TalkTalk is the thought of a gangly Fagan/Kramer type looming behind you like the Grinch and reaching into your pocket. Ugh. Sure, he's leaving money in it, but what else is he doing down there? This ad (or is it a viral?) is basically trying to claim that TalkTalk are here for the people in the times of trouble, which is of course bullshit – they're hiring former thieves to help them take your money.
