Lux Workshops With Creators

Learn from the masters.

If you’re struggling with what to occupy yourself with this weekend and into next week, and you have some free time on your hands, $1200.00 to burn (there’s discounts for students), along with the money to fly to the southwest of France (alright, that probably rules out most of us); then you could do worse than enrolling in Moritz Waldemeyer’s Solar, Light and Magic workshop. He’ll share some of his "tech-tile" fusion mastery while exploring design concepts and aesthetics using LED, sensors, electronic, and solar components. Also going on concurrently is a workshop by cutting-edge Brazilian fashion designer, and fellow creator, Jum Nakao, called Symbiosis of Nature and Form, which will explore the “possibilities of volume, shape, deformation and recreation.” Both are great opportunities to learn from some of the world's most prolific innovators first hand. They’re also both part of a series of workshops in collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum and the Centre Georges Pompidou that the C.I.R.E.C.A. (Centre International de Recherche et d’Education Culturelle et Agricole) organizes every year covering various design disciplines from graphic, to glass, porcelain, sound, and fashion. In the evenings there are lectures and discussions. The whole thing is set in the charming estate of the Domaine de Boisbuchet, so you can ramble and amble around its extensive grounds contemplating what you’ve learned while sipping fine wine. While it may be on the ambitious and spontaneous side to up and go to one this coming Sunday, this interdisciplinary summer school may be something to consider for the future.

And while we’re on the subject of workshops, we mentioned awhile back about Cassette Playa teaching fashion and design as part of the Make Something Happen! workshops in New York City. Above is an uplifting video from it, with Carri discussing costume-making with kids.
