NORTHMIX: James Deen

When the recent Vancouverite isn't crafting trap-happy sounds, he's deep in The OC re-runs.

It's unclear whether or not his moniker is a parody of the porn industry's golden boy of the same name, but James Deen (Brennan Henderson), is certainly out to stimulate an audience of musical fetish.

The recently new Vancouverite has been taking the trap house to a realm of perky, bouncy beats. Extracting the ominous side from the foundations of trap and planting a cheerful vibe far more suitable for smiles than head thrashing—James has added a sparkle to tracks from the likes of Ryan Hemsworth and Cashmere Cat. Like many, he's always trying to keep tracks upbeat and fun.

"I wanted to make a mix that sounded less like something you would hear in a club. Not that there isn't tracks that could work great in a club, but I wanted something you could listen to while doing homework, or getting over someone," he says. "I wanted to forget the whole 'overall vibe thing' and have plenty of ups and downs in the mood. I hope you connect with at least one of the songs!"

The mix's inclusion of an up-tempo "Bugaboo" remix is enough to send panties wheeling through the thick nightclub air.

Bounce to the mix above and check out James Deen's pages on Soundcloud and Facebook for more. James will be at the Remington Gallery and Studio in Vancouver on November 8.
