Who is Malaa?

That's the question that's been posed by the Parisian-based producer, who has performed wearing a ski mask since first appearing on the dance music scene last year. The answer to Malaa's identity is a subject of some debate, and the producer seems to delight in his anonymity. Since last summer, he or she has steadily released a "Who Is Malaa?" series of tracks; the latest installment, "Who Is Malaa #9," was posted on Malaa's Soundcloud just last month. Each track, fittingly, features an image of a wildly designed ski mask.

But the producer isn't just gaining notoriety for being enigmatic, but also for his hard-hitting house cuts, the latest of which "Fade" has been released on fellow Parisian producer Tchami's new Confession label. "Fade" plays with the rush and execution of a bank heist, almost threatening people to their feet and onto the dance floor. A sample of Nas and Kool G Rap's "Fast Life" gives "Fade" extra urgency.
