Phil Simms On Ray Rice: "Well, He Was Beat Up Last Year"

"Beat up" is probably not the way to describe Ray Rice.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms discussed the future of Ray Rice during the first half of Steelers-Ravens tonight and specifically wondered whether he would ever play in the NFL again. Simms suggested that it would be a hard sell for an owner to bring Rice into the fold since he beat up his then-fiancée and now-wife, Janay Rice. Also, from a purely football perspective, Simms continued, he's steadily declined anyway, and played injured through most of last year. The implication being that the cost-benefit analysis might not make sense. That's when Simms used the unfortunate colloquialism "beat up" to describe his injuries and the trivializing discussion became so much worse. Phrasing, Phil Simms. Phrasing.
