As melodramatic and corny as it can get (natch), this old Discovery Channel documentary offers some old school insight into the meaning, methodology and cultural impact of the hackers movement. It focuses on early hacking legends John Draper aka "Cap’n Crunch" and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and the naughty code tinkering they did in the days before the Internet was really a word. Ultimately you realize without these dudes taking computer systems apart, making it do different things than they were supposed to, and outsmarting phone companies and making free calls with Captain Crunch whistles, you wouldn't have all your precious easy-to-use apps.See more on hackers, and Motherboard’s documentary about a different breed of maker-of-something-better at NYC Resistor.
