We all, every single one of us, suffer through the odd bout of boredom. We don't, however, all arrive at the conclusion that shooting and stuffing a live animal is the answer to said boredom.
Not so for the Kilmore, Victoria man who found a koala on the side of a road at French Island, shot it with a .22 rifle, stuffed it, then hung it on a wall in his house. Wildlife officers from discovered the koala during a raid of the man's home in June 2017, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning reports. When questioned, the man (unnamed) said he had done it for "something to do," according to department manager Greg Chant. It is unclear at this stage why his home was raided.
The koala killer had his day in court on April 27 2018, where he reportedly denied the charges. However, as reported in Fairfax/AAP, he was found guilty of illegally destroying and possessing wildlife, and placed on a good behaviour bond.
He was also ordered to contribute $1000 to a court charity fund. In a statement released today, Greg Chant emphasised that "We take these matters very seriously and it's disturbing that somebody would kill a native animal in these circumstances."
