Opened in 1984, Toronto’s Massey Hall is Canada’s oldest concert hall, with the venue even being designated a National Historic Site in 1981. Some of the many famous artists who have played the 2,765-capacity theatre throughout its history include Bob Dylan, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Kinks, and Ravi Shankar, while Dizzy Gillespie, Neil Young, and Rush have all recorded notable live albums there.
For the third season of their Live at Massey Hall series, they’ve teamed up with director Adrian Vieni to film a handful of shows by both trailblazing and up-and-coming Canadian artists. While past editions have stayed mostly in indie rock territory, this year’s lineup features electro-pop provocateur Peaches, throat singer Tanya Tagaq, composer and multi-instrumentalist Owen Pallett, and piano maestro and Drake collaborator Chilly Gonzales.
Playing songs from across her deep discography (including 2015’s Rub), the former’s high energy concert is a standout, with multiple costume changes, dancers, and a special guest appearance from none other than Leslie Feist. The 36-minute video also features Peaches discussing her early musical beginnings in Toronto and memories of Massey Hall.
