Fight Erupts After Panthers Go Up 17-0 On Saints

The Panthers and Saints brawled after Cam Newton put Carolina up 17-0 and did a little showboating right in the face of the New Orleans defense.

The raging trashcan inferno that is the NFC south burned ever brighter today when the Panthers and Saints brawled after Cam Newton put Carolina up 17-0 in the first quarter. Newton scored a touchdown on a sprawling leap from two yards out and things got touchy initially because he fumbled after the ball crossed the plane of the goal line. After the play was sorted out and the Panthers were awarded the touchdown, Newton tried to do his Superman celebration right in the face of one of the Saints defenders, which was not appreciated.

From there, all hell broke loose. Newton continued his celebration, getting shoved and shoving back and the rest of the panthers went to protect their quarterback.

Only two penalties were called on the play—neither of which were on Cam Newton—offsetting personal fouls, but Carolina tight end Brandon WIlliams was ejected for throwing a punch, which you can sort of see at the tail end of the GIF above and here, behind the goal post.
