XL Recordings Announces the Revival Of Its Dance Compilation Series

The independent label's first edition to its Chapter Series in twenty years.

Before its present day incarnation as an independent label powerhouse — with an all-star roster including Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, and FKA twigs — XL Recordings's primary output was dance music. In the early 90s, it released an annual compilation of new house and techno tracks assembled from its own stable (The Prodigy and Liquid then among them), and generously showcased non-XL acts such as Underworld and Praga Khan. The final compilation Chapter 5 was released in 1995. Now XL is reviving the Chapter Series with a new generation of dance musicians.

XL Chapter VI is a dance-floor inspired vinyl release highlighting new club artists such as Zomby (who we recently profiled), MssingNo, Special Request, GILA, Hugo Messian, and many others. "This part of the instalment may feature different production techniques and new aesthetic techniques than the previous instalment," XL said in a written statement, "but in spirit it's essentially the same…the snaky acid basslines, brutally sparse beats and the synth melodies that soundtrack the post-club early hours, are all still there." The renown label also plans to release a "club-ready EPs" with each artist included on the comp.

The vinyl is available for pre-order here.
