Dirtybird's summer BBQ has risen the party ranks from being a low-key shindig in Golden Gate park to a giant roving kickback with meaty lineups and a meatier attitude. Really, what could really be better than going ham to booty-dropping bass house while suckling on meats like pulled pork, spicy wings, and actual ham. This weekend, Sunday August 16, the crew is coming back to the Williamsburg waterfront for their second annual Brooklyn edition, presented by our homies at MeanRed. They'll be bringing along regulars like the bird-fathers Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin, Shiba San, J.Phlip, Kill Frenzy, and very special guest Slick Rick.To help get your intestines properly coated for the forthcoming festivities we asked the crew of performing artists to make a playlist of their essential summer BBQ jams and describe why the in fact jam so damn hard.Let this be but an appetizer to the summer's tastiest feast:DJ Blaqstarr & Rye Rye - "Shake It To The Ground" (Claude VonStroke Remix) + Claude VonStroke & J.Phlip - "California"
The tracks that best describe the vibe at the BBQ are this old remix I did for Blaqstarr ft. Rye Rye called "Shake it to the Ground" and a similar original called "California," that I made with J. Phlip.Shinehead - "Billie Jean"This is a nice and fun reggae tribute to the king of pop. It's great for chilling out to on a hot day while relaxing with friends and cooking BBQ. It always seems to bring ear-to-ear smiles whenever i find the appropriate time to play it :)Frank Booker - "Spiral"I just recently discovered this gem and am in love with it. To me this record just screams BBQ vibe, and this type of music is what I'd like to party to myself when at a day party. I always believe you should play according to the time and vibe of the party. BBQ's are sunny, social, sweaty, bikini-filled parties, and this record makes me want to take my clothes off, shake my cardboard booty and eat a burger. I think i have to do some more squats to make it bigger…This is my popsicles melting on a hot summer BBQ day song.Shiba San - "Okay"My ultimate BBQ tune is my track "Okay," which released on Dirtybird in February on 2014. It's been my anthem for all the Dirtybird events.
The Dirtybird BBQ will be stopping in Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, and The first ever Dirtybird Campout on October 2-4 in Silverado, CA.
